On Friday night, KnightLife hosted upwards of 175 people who gathered in the Hoogenboom Gym for a shot at a large cash prize from a “COVID-safe” trivia game.
Josh Bulten, the campus involvement coordinator, said that the turnout was greater than expected for this event, considering the COVID circumstances. Bulten continually reminded participants of social distancing guidelines in place due to the crowded conditions in the gym.
After a fun night of laughs, mocktails, and trivia from a variety of categories, the winners were announced. The top two teams received a cash prize total of about $150.
First place went to Team Thightans (Aidan Bakker, Eleanor Lee, Abbie Ham, Gabby Feshly, and Jeffrey Amidon). In second place was Team Pastor Mary 4 President.
Bulten said that this is the first time KnightLife held a trivia event, and although they would normally hope to add more aspects to the night, like a dance party, he was still proud of his team, which consisted of Noah Ambrose and Arianna Koeman, for pulling off this socially distant event.
“One of the biggest learning goals that we have for all of our events is to build community and friendships,” said Bulten. “That is why we like doing events that are team focused.”
Bulten went on to say that he also hopes that students choose KnightLife’s “COVID-safe” events rather than going off campus.
Gillian Vandermolen, a participant in the trivia night, said that she had a good time at the event. She stated that she especially enjoyed the Shirley Temple mocktail that was provided and appreciated the chance to reconnect with old friends through competition.
Bulten said to look for KnightLife’s Nerf War event coming soon.
