Letter to the editor: Ridgewood apartments, the place I call home

Dear Editor,

I want to reassure students moving to Ridgewood Apartments on Burton because they could not get into KE (“Turned Away from KE”, April 24), that Ridgewood is not a second-best option – I have lived there very happily since starting work at Calvin in 1997.

It’s a lively and diverse community of working families, students, a couple of Calvin faculty, and even a local pastor. It’s conveniently located, and easily within walking distance to Calvin.

Over the past eighteen years of living at Ridgewood, I have gone for two periods of two years without a car, and have had no problems getting from home to campus on foot, even in the depths of winter — mind you, I’m Canadian, so snow is my thing — but seriously, it takes me all of twelve minutes to walk from my apartment to my office – less if the light at the Beltline is in my favor. So if you’re moving to Ridgewood, welcome! I hope to see you on the walk to and from campus!
