After moving their game from Grand Rapids Christian High School (GRCHS) to Adrian because of weather, the Calvin Knights dropped their third game in a row, losing 18-1 to Concordia (Wisconsin). The Knights struggled on both sides, with freshman D.J. VanderBaan scoring their only goal, while the Falcons scored the most goals in a road game in their history. This game was the Falcon’s season opener.
The Knights then played Benedictine University (Illinois) in another “home” game that was moved to Davenport because of the weather. This game was the first ever lacrosse game for the Eagles, who cruised to a 13-1 win on the backs of Conner Mersch, who had five goals, and Zachary MacLachlan, who scored four. The Knights scored their only goal in the final minutes to avoid a shut-out.
This loss drops them to 0-4 on their first season as a varsity team. They hope to be able to turn it around with upcoming games against Defiance on March 2, Elmhurst at home (GRCHS) on March 9, and the big rivalry game against Hope at home (GRCHS) on March 13.
