The local news editor is responsible for generating content every week for the local news section of Chimes, as well as recruiting writers, assigning stories to volunteer writers and laying out the local news page for the print edition of Chimes. The local news editor is paid a stipend per semester.
The local news editor can plan to spend roughly eight hours per week working on their section.
Applicants must be self-motivated, organized and professional. Strong writing skills are a must. It’s important that the local news editor be well-connected to the Grand Rapids community and have a strong pulse on events in the city. Special consideration will be given to applicants who have ideas on how to recruit writers and how to create intentional community with writers.
