Scholten nabs CRC, RCA former leaders’ endorsements
Former leaders of the Christian Reformed Church and the Reformed Church in America endorsed Democratic candidate Hillary Scholten for the MI-03 seat in the House of Representatives.
Dr. Steven Timmermans, the former executive director of the CRC, said, “It’s time to recognize Hilllary Scholten’s significant government experience, faith, commitment, and willingness to work for change in Washington. I’m pleased to endorse her candidacy for Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District seat.”
Timmermans stepped down in February, a year earlier than expected during discussions about the financial structures between the American and Canadian branch of the CRC.
RCA General Secretary Emeritus Rev. Wes Granberg-Michaelson said that Scholten’s experience in government and her faith commitment to justice are the reasons for his support.
This follows a new TV advertisement where Scholten highlighted her faith. “I can’t think of a more broken place than Washington DC. We need leaders who will put people before politics. And that’s what my faith will lead me to do,” Scholten said.
Scholten also received the endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate and former vice president Joe Biden on Monday. “From her work with homeless women and children to her time at the Department of Justice, Hillary has spent her career fighting for her community. I am proud to endorse Hillary and know that she will fight to ensure that every Michigan family has a fair shot at getting ahead,” Biden’s endorsement stated.
Biden’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden, campaigned with Scholten in Grand Rapids on Tuesday.
Scholten is running against Republican candidate Peter Meijer for Rep. Justin Amash’s congressional seat. Meijer is an Army Reserve veteran and the grandson of Fred Meijer, the founder of the grocery chain Meijer.

In 1960, our minister at Boston Square Christian Reformed Church in GR, preached from the pulpit that we should not vote for JFK because he “was a Roman Catholic” and that “the pope would take a leadership position in the USA.” Politics have nothing to do with religion. That leaders in the CRC “endorse” candidates for congressional office is out-of-line. Who cares what they think about politics anyway? Might as well listen to what the Kardashians in Hollywood endorse for political office. Glad that Amash is out of the office with his crazy misaligned ideas. The CRC is essentially now a liberal loving left-wing religious group of tree-hugging kooks. My Dutch grandparents would have not approved of the way the CRC and what the CRC has become, including Calvin College. Go ahead and endorse those who campaign for abortion. That really fits in well with the CRC catechism.

Where do you worship? What is your stand on late term abortion?

Late term abortion is the rarest and most tragic of pregnancy complications, rarer than fetal gunshot deaths, and as such serves only as a pornographic tallking point for the nutcase right wing in this country.
