The Calvin Cycling Club is a student organization that has recently started up again after being absent for several years. This organization encourages students, faculty and alumni to develop their athletic abilities through cycling, no matter their experience. Through various events, the club’s goals are to develop lasting friendships, seek endurance and discipline and to transform each member both spiritually and physically.
Currently the Cycling Club holds spinning classes on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m. These classes are free and open to anyone who wants to join. The spinning sessions are either led by a leader of the club or by “Global Cycling Network” videos, which provide hour-long training sessions. On occasion after the sessions there is the opportunity for some post-workout yoga as well.
“Come springtime, the club will move to outdoor cycling and hopefully begin entering in some collegiate races,” said Jacki Cronin, a leader of the organization. “Our goal is to challenge every member of the club, no matter their experience with cycling.”
The races the club will participate in are going to be group events in which each member of the club will have the chance to join. For these events, Calvin offers specialized road bikes for members of the organization to borrow. These road bikes are available to all members in the club to use.
“Although numbers are small right now, we have high hopes for the future potential of this club in terms of members and ability,” Cronin said. “This club is a great way for people to get involved and try a sport they might not normally participate in.”
