‘Love Does’ author Bob Goff comes to Calvin

Bob Goff, the author of the New York Times bestseller “Love Does” and founder of Restore International, will speak at the January Series on Friday afternoon.

Released in May 2012, “Love Does” is a popular book in Christian circles that focuses on humorous anecdotes from Goff’s own life, as well as a challenge to readers that Christian love prompts action.

Senior Abby Buursma said that she’s looking forward to hearing Goff speak on Friday.

“I had the pleasure of hearing him speak once before and was astounded by this man’s enthusiasm for life and pursuit of justice among the brokenness in our world,” she said. “I can’t wait to hear what he has to share.”

Chaplain Mary Hulst agreed with Buursma’s description of Goff.

“[Goff] is a Christian who really understands the freedom that comes from being fully loved by God and loves others freely because of it,” she said. “This has led to an interesting and adventurous life.”

One of those adventures has been his founding of Restore International, an organization that advocates for human rights in Uganda and India. Goff is also an attorney and has used his legal background to help others around the globe.

In Uganda, the nonprofit has been involved in more than 200 judicial cases to free children locked in jail without a trial. In India, Restore International’s actions have led to the arrest of more than 80 people involved with child prostitution.

Author Bob Goff will present “Love Does: Discover a Secretly Incredible Life in an Ordinary World” at the January Series at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10 in the Covenant Fine Arts Center.
