The Knights faced the Albion Britons on Tuesday for a conference match-up where they defeated the Britons 4-1. This is the ninth straight win for the Knights, who are 9-1 in the MIAA and 11-3 on the season.

Senior Joe Broekhuizen was the first to find the back of the net in the fifth minute after taking a pass from sophomore Travis Vegter. This was the only goal of the first half, during which the Knights outshot the Britons 7-1.

The Knights opened up the second half with a quick two goals in the first ten minutes. The first one by freshman Taylor Pruis off a pass from Broekhuizen and the second just a minute later, when Vegter scored on a shot from the top of the 18-yard box. Pruis connected again in the 77th minute for the Knights final goal of the game.

The Britons were only able to make up one goal of the four goal deficit in the 87th minute. Calvin outshot Albion 12-4.
Broekhuizen commented, “All around good effort today. Our offense played well possession wise and our defense was steady as always. We’ve put ourselves in a good position in the conference so every win from here on out is big.”

Pruis added, “It wasn’t our best game, but we were patient with the ball.  They really packed it in so we had to work a little harder than we would have liked, but eventually we came away with three points.”

Calvin hosts Hope on Saturday at noon. Broekhuizen commented: “As far as Hope goes, we expect a battle. We feel as though we are the better team its just a matter of going out there and proving it. It’ll be important for us to control our emotions and stay focused so we can play like we know we can. Keeper Jared Rushlau and our defense stepped up big last time we played Hope so we expect nothing less from them this Saturday.” Calvin defeated Hope in their last contest 1-0.
