Weekly church spotlight: Christ Church
Denomination: Presbyterian Church of America (PCA)
Location: 2500 Breton Rd, Grand Rapids, MI, 49546
Christ Church is a five-minute car ride from campus, with a van that picks up students at 9:30 a.m., before Sunday school, and at 11:00 a.m., before the second service. Walking through the doors, you’ll be greeted by a bustling lobby with orange juice and other refreshments.
Because Christ Church emphasizes understanding and engaging with the church, so there are a variety of Sunday schools for the theologically minded and even one specifically for college students.
During the service, the congregation sings with a changing cast of music styles and instruments, along with scripture readings and periodic liturgies. Pastor Andrew then strolls through his sermon teaching us how to interact with the world and with ourselves. After a standard closing song, the congregation gradually parts ways.
Christ Church has a special focus on college students, which Pastor Addison Hawkins leads. Every second Sunday of the month, Christ Church hosts a college lunch after the service and
Addison hosts events such as men’s and women’s Bible studies for college students throughout the week.
For those who attend, Christ Church will encourage participation in the church community, not just Sunday attendance. College students are welcome to join C-Groups for small group learning and to take part in the many events that the Church hosts for students, such as camping and beach trips.
As an encouraging and friendly body, Christ Church lives out its focus on godly interactions by engaging in the community within and around it.
