know, it seems easier to take your car in whenever the oil light or the check engine light comes on. But with some basic knowledge of car maintenance, you could handle a lot of things yourself.
Let me try to convince you why car care is worth spending a morning to learn about.
- Maintenance is important for your car because it prevents things from breaking down. Cars may be the worst investment, but they last a lot longer when they are cared for properly.
- Basic knowledge about car care prevents you from being stranded on the side of the road. When you pop a tire two hours from home on your way back from spring break, it would behoove you to know how to change your own tire instead of having to wait for help.
- It will save you money in the long run. It is expensive to take your car to a mechanic for every light and problem. Knowing how to change your own oil or check for basic issues will be much cheaper.
The American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME) wants to make it even easier for students without basic mechanical knowledge to engage in preventative maintenance by hosting a Car Care event. This event is designed for students to learn the basics of vehicle maintenance. You can learn how to change a tire and change oil, as well as receiving other maintenance information.
If you bring the correct oil filtration needed for your car, we will even show you how to do it on your own car.
We know car maintenance can be a hassle, but we want to prepare you to prevent things from going wrong and equip you to deal with problems as they arise.
Come check us out Saturday, 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Engineering Building, or email me ([email protected]) if you have any questions.
