Chris Tomlin and Rend Collective in Grand Rapids
On November 7, Chris Tomlin will be coming to Grand Rapids to the Van Andel Arena for his “Love Ran Red Tour.” Tomlin’s tour in the spring was attended by more than 200,000 people and was recorded as the largest tour his career. Tomlin visited 36 cities during the spring and sold out at large venues in Chicago, Seattle, Phoenix and Dallas. Tomlin’s tour also partnered with the organization CURE International, which works with providing surgeries for children with disabilities, and was able to raise $700,000 with the help of fans.
Tomlin’s ongoing fall tour is spanning 22 cities between October and November, and will feature Rend Collective as the opening band. Rend Collective is a Christian folk group from Northern Ireland. Tomlin’s tour is set to conclude at the Passion conference this coming January. This will not be Tomlin’s first time performing in West Michigan — in 2009, 2010 and 2013 Tomlin also had concerts in the Van Andel Arena.
Tomlin’s album “Love Ran Red” was released last year reaching the No. 1 spot on the National Christian Audience chart. Tomlin’s recent single “Good Good Father” was also a huge hit, climbing up to the No. 1 spot on the iTunes Christian Songs Chart on the day of its release. In response to his success, Tomlin said, “In every record, there’s a song that comes along that I’m just captured by. God is a good Father, and I think people need to hear that more than ever. What a beautiful thing to stand and proclaim and just let people experience the heart and the power of those words — ‘you’re a good, good Father.’”
For the fall leg of the tour, Tomlin has announced that he will be partnering with Pushpay, a digital and mobile sharing platform, to crowdfund donations for the Museum of the Bible. Pushpay is reported to be currently partnered with 1,400 churches across the nation, and is being advertised as a platform for churches to receive mobile tithes and donations in quick transactions. All donations to Pushpay through Tomlin’s tour will be sourced to museum construction efforts. Donors in return will have their names inscribed on a wall of the museum out of appreciation.
The museum in Washington, D.C., was established with the purposes for exploring the history of the Bible. Tomlin, in support of this cause, said that “our fans are some of the most generous people I’ve ever met, and I know they will rally around our goal of getting one million people to spread generosity and support the Museum of the Bible with a donation during our Love Ran Red tour.”
Tickets for the concert are currently on sale at Ticketmaster and at the Van Andel Arena and DeVos Place.
