Lady Knights lacrosse keeps their winning streak alive with a conference win, 16-4, against the Lady Thunder from Trine University.

After playing a tough, non-conference schedule for the first part of their season, they are prepared for upcoming conference games and conference tournament.

After winning their last three games, with a win against non-conference team, Urbana, on April 7, the team claims a record of 5-5.

The Trine game was a “fun game,” as coach Blake Boehm said. The team exhibited excellence—proved by the score—by strong defense, fast transitions and working hard for extra possessions.

“We continue to focus on protecting our possessions and taking advantage of the right opportunities offensively,” said Boehm.

The furthest the women’s lacrosse team has made it before this year in the MIAA Conference Tournament was third place.

After the regular season ends with an away game against Adrian on April 25, the team will advance to the conference tournament.

The four teams with the best record will continue on to the conference semi-final, and the final two teams will meet in the conference final game on May 2.

Boehm believes that this could be their year; especially since these girls are the most “athletic and adaptive” team he has ever coached.

While moving the girls from position to position to see which place they fit in the best, Boehm believes finding the right combination of players will allow the team to work as a unit and, by taking each day at a time, progress further and further in the tournament.

In addition to being a coach since the 2007-2008 season, Boehm has had his fair share of experience being a team player. Playing for the men’s lacrosse team at Calvin, winning the conference four times and making two appearances in the National Tournament, he knows what it takes to lead a winning team.

“With regard to the rest of the season, we take one day at a time,” said Boehm. “We have some tough competition coming up and we need to spend our time focusing on improving our execution each day.”

The Knights take the field at Albion this Saturday, April 11, to jump start their final stretch to the end of the regular season.
